Thank heaven for Critique Partners! Mine have been so generous with
their time and suggestions and I'm finally back on track I might be
able to make my personal July 1st deadline after all!

Can I get a break? Can the Universe just cut me some slack? After
losing my father and my job, now I've spent the past two weeks with
my grandmother at the hospital. I'll be lucky to finish this book by
Christmas!

Things are finally getting better and I'm back to work on Black
Lace. Since I'm unemployed, I'm treating writing as my job and I
should be finished soon!

Not much to tell this time. I had my first booksigning May 1st and
gave my first live workshop on May 8th. The writing is going slowly,
though, too slowly. I just can't seem to concentrate. After my dad
died, I got into a family dispute with his second wife and then lost
my job. Not a good month so far...

My father died a week ago today. I haven't done much writing in the
last week, being consumed by guilt and grief and regrets. Today I
wrote. Because I realize that time waits for no one; that time is
the one thing you can never have more of. Today I wrote because my
father read my book and said he was proud of me.

I got my first rejection. (Well, technically my second but the first
didn't count since RSD eventually sold). One of the literary agents
I had queried returned my submission, saying he just didn't love the
writing enough. It shouldn't bother me, but...

RED SHOES is on the shelves! I saw it through the
window, in the store, on the shelf! And then I went inside and
touched it and it was real and I wrote it and it was really
published and it's in the store and people can buy it and I'm a real
author and I made the lady in the poetry section take my picture
with the disposable camera I ran to the drugstore to buy. Woohoo!
What a wonderful experience!

It's here! The moment I've been waiting for for four years... No
wait, longer than that. What a great day! Not only is RED
SHOES & A DIARY on sale online, but the NIGHT
MAGIC writing round robin has started! I feel terrific!

They're here. I held them in my hands. They have form and substance
and mass. They have words and phrases, paragraphs and chapters... I
GOT MY COPIES OF RED SHOES!

Okay, how cool is this? I found out that not only will RSD be
featured on the tryblaze.com website in April, but an essay I wrote
will be in the Learn to Write section of the regular eHarlequin.com
website beginning March 17th!

In the last two weeks I've mailed some material to an agent, taught
my first online class and struggled like hell with writer's block.
Despite it, I've forced myself to keep working. Each single
paragraph eventually adds up.

February 1, 2003
I submitted the three book proposals to Brenda, finalized the
Writing Round Robin with the eHarlequin folks and sent query letters
to three well respected literary agents, all of whom contacted me
the next day! Whew, it's been a busy two weeks <wink>

Rolling right along. The synopsis for 9 1/2 DAYS is done so now I'm
working on SLOW BURN. I hope to get this all submitted next week. In
the meantime, I've decided to try teaching. My Creativity
Coaching
online classes are listed on my writer's site.

WooHoo! The first three chapters and synopsis for BLACK LACE are
finished... But Brenda wants me to do the synopses for the other two
books before sending it to her :-/ Sigh. Back to work...

Happy New Year! I hope it's a productive and successful one for all
of us. I'm putting several irons in the fire this year because my
goal is to be able to quit my job and write full time. Whatever your
goal is, start taking the first steps to make it happen. |
