December 15, 2003

Slowly, very slowly, things are starting to settle down. My grandmother is safely in a nursing rehab and things went well in court. So, now to BIC-HOK like crazy and get this bloody partial manuscript finished! This is probably the last journal entry of the year, therefore I wish everyone (especially me) success and health and joy in 2004!

December 1, 2003

I still don't have good news, but at least I'm making headway on DAYS. Chapter two is finished and I've started chapter three. I'm going to do my best to turn in this partial before the holidays.

November 20, 2003

My grandmother is in the hospital. My mother is sick. I have to go to court about my father's estate. And I'm not writing. Thank goodness my editor is understanding and gave me an extra 30 days to submit the partial for 9 1/2 DAYS. I can't wait for this year to end.

I'm in trouble. I'm supposed to be working on my next Blaze. The partial manuscript is due December 1st. But I only have one chapter done and every time I sit at the computer, I go blank.  This is not good. I understand it's typical to have trouble switching gears, but this is still not good.

October 31, 2003

BLACK LACE is back in Toronto. I got the revisions on the 15th and was pleasantly surprised that no major changes were requested. I'm really thrilled with this story- I think it's the best work I've done! And yet, somehow I know it could be better... Ahh, the writing life.

October 10, 2003

I got an advance review for BLACK LACE and I'm really pleased. I know I shouldn't put so much stock into other's opinions, but knowing someone likes your writing makes the work in progress flow a little easier.

September 29, 2003

I thought I'd have to wait until 2005, but my next book comes out in May 2004! I'm also very pleased with the title change from BLACK LACE & A LETTER to  YOURS IN BLACK LACE. The manuscript has been FedExed to Canada, so now I have to get to work on the next one!

September 18, 2003

The End... At least for now. I've finished the entire manuscript for Black Lace. After I take two days off to sleep, I'll tackle the revisions and edits my CPs gave me. (These gals are tougher than any editor! But I don't know what I'd do without them.)

September 7, 2003

Things have been tough on the family front, but Black Lace is going well. I'm writing a little faster (I've never been good at first drafts- too much of a perfectionist) but it's strong, if I do say so myself, and I feel confident about making my October 1st deadline.

August 22, 2003

Oh, me of little faith... My new editor called today to tell me Blaze is buying two of my books- Black Lace and 91/2 Days! She thinks my writing is contemporary, fun, compelling and energetic. Nothing like a compliment- and a imminent check- to brighten up my lousy year.

August 19, 2003

The agent I had hoped to work with declined representation- she'd just not enthusiastic about my writing. And I still haven't heard anything about my Blaze proposals. It's really hard to stay motivated, so I've shelved Black Lace and started a new project. Who knew a second sale would be this damned hard?

July 25, 2003

The news in New York wasn't what I'd hoped to hear. My new editor thinks Black Lace has potential, but rejected one of the other proposals. All three stories are on the Executive Director's desk. In the meantime, an agent is considering the same material. We'll see what happens. Color me less than confident right now.

July 10, 2003

I'm leaving for the RWA conference in New York in five days and I'm getting nervous. I submitted three proposals to Blaze back in January, including Black Lace, but I haven't heard anything back as to whether they're going to sell. I've got a new editor and I'll be meeting her for the first time in NYC. Wish me luck. I really want to make another sale...

July 3, 2003

I had a very nice experience the other night. A local book club had made RED SHOES their June selection and they enjoyed the story so much, they took me out to dinner in exchange for autographs and 'behind the scenes' tidbits. I had a great time and the Southern Comfort Punch Club is a really fun group of folks.
