Damned writer's block again. It's kind of hard to get
excited about the MIDNIGHT manuscript at the moment. Except
this time I know it's caused by a combination of holiday
prep frenzy.. and the fact that my published, Signature
Spotlight, just announced last week that it's going under.
Grr.

I saw it again. My editor sent back a four-page revision
letter and I had a week to make the changes. Not all of them
were possible, mostly due to the backstory I wanted to give
my heroine as well as time constraints, but I do think the
final version of AFTERNOON DELIGHT is much better. And this
time, it's really gone. Now I have to get back to work on
the Midnight book... after some sleep.

It's really gone this time and if I never see it again, that
will be just fine. This last book was the hardest one ever
since I had to face some personal demons. I have no idea if
it's any good- I'm waiting to get my editor's comments.
She'll probably remind me that I hated my last book too and
it did great.

Well, my latest manuscript is gone, although it's not done.
I sent what I had- 10 polished chapters and rough
draft of the rest- off to my editor on Friday. I wish I had
more of a sense of accomplishment or relief, but in fact
I'll be working non-stop for the next week to flesh out the
draft and then revise and polish. No rest for the Weary As
Hell of the Book.

Okay, time to go into panic mode. The child is back in
school and the house is once again my own, but I'm still
struggling with this book, a situation made worse by my
editor asking if she can have the complete manuscript
earlier than scheduled... No pressure there.

On a brighter note, I had a great night out with the Bel Air
Book Club. This fun bunch of folks had chosen 9 1/2 DAYS as
their reading selection and took me out for dinner and a
signing at one of the restaurants featured in the story.
They're a terrific group and I look forward to seeing them
again next year.

AAAAaaaarrrrgggghhhh! My workshop in Reno was about writer's
block and I'm struggling with it again. I should be the
Official Writers Block Poster Child. And none of the
techniques I taught in class will help me because I know
what my problem is...I'd rather be working on something
else! Professionalism takes the fun out of the craft yet
again.

This year’s RWA conference was a very good one for me. Not
only did I see a lot of friends and make a few new ones,
68(!) people came to my workshop, I went to lunch with an
agent and I submitted four proposals to my editor. Yeah, I
know I don’t have time to write them until late next
year… Speaking of which, I’d better get back to work on
the book that’s due in September!

It's almost time for the annual RWA conference and I've spent more money than I care to admit on shoes and clothes for the parties and award events I'll be attending and the workshop I'm giving in Reno.
I also have meeting with a potential new agent, my current
editor and my new single title editor. However, this year I've decided
that I'm not going to stress out or overpack. There's nobody I need to
impress with my wardrobe- only with my personality. So,
unless I'm doing business, look for me to be wearing blue jeans and bare
feet!
